This is a book of hundreds of websites covering computer games and video games.
It includes a chapter on the computer games industry including jobs as a computer games developer.
A video game designer works on:
software
hardware, the machine itself
Know programming, especially, video, audio and graphics.
It’s entertainment therefore emotion. Get customers by being emotional.
Many video game designers have a bachelor’s degree in computer programming but it’s a skills field. If you can do the work, you don’t need a degree.
Start by volunteering to test games for companies and offering feedback.
Lots of amateurs create games out of nothing.
Demand for video games is high but only a few big companies create a few big games every year.
Many people want to do this job. You have to be good to get in.
Sit down and create code.
Help out with open source games.
Know C/C++ or Java.
It’s a multibillion dollar industry but I wouldn’t bet on it because only a few companies control most of it, there are plenty of free open-source games out there and people sometimes get tired of things in a big way like I remember listening to the secondlife founder talk about the whole world creating avatars and going on second life but most people got bored of it.
No matter what, there is always a real world that beats a fantasy computer world.
I was looking at the comments on a video game career website. A lot of teenagers want this job.
