The X Project was derived from research to understand the complexity of an environmental injustice that has plagued the minority community for over forty years. It is surmised to have been one of many weapons used during the Civil Rights Era to deprive thousands of African Americans of a healthy life span. This biological attack, if true, was well planned and executed. Years later, victims are still growing in great numbers without ever seeing their enemy.
To satisfy my wish to understand why I might have been channeled to tell this story, I decided to venture to the source where facts can be obtained—the archives of the City Colleges of Chicago, which houses thousands of records of its seven colleges, including Malcolm X College—with the hope that this puzzle might be pieced together.
