Why would anyone want a murderer on their mantelshelf? Victorian manufacturers of Staffordshire pottery figures produced portraits of a huge range of celebrities. Some, like Admiral Nelson or Grace Darling, were obvious role models. Others were unsavoury characters whose appeal is less obvious.
Some of the Staffordshire figures are still recognisable today. Others had only a brief moment of celebrity and are now almost forgotten. The twelve stories in this little book reflect the interests of ordinary Victorians and the people they admired or despised.
