    SAMPLE PROMPTS

    Everyday Encounters
Your character boards a city bus or train, and the only open seat is next to a person who appears to be homeless. She sits next to the person and notices that he is reading a newspaper dated ten years earlier. Have her ask about the paper, and detail the conversation that follows.

    The Other Three Senses
Choose a descriptive scene from your work-in-progress (or from one of your favorite books, essays, etc.) and re-write it to incorporate all five senses. How do these new details add to the reader’s experience? Which sensory details are the most powerful for your character, your reader, or you as the writer?

    NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

If you're in a creative rut, know that I've been there, too. I spent far too long struggling with my inability to write, and it negatively affected several aspects of my life. That's why I wrote 100 General Creative Writing Prompts – because I know what it's like to feel creatively empty, and I want to help other writers beat their own blocks.

In this booklet, I've combined techniques from my days in university (I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing) with the real-world lessons I learned from writing my own fiction novels. The result? A list of 100 prompts to get your creative gears spinning. But that's all I can do. The rest is up to you.
