The violent execution-style slaying of one man triggers a series of events that cause havoc on three continents. The ensuing actions of a determined and ruthless avenger modify a great many people’s lives beyond reparation.
Sitting on a palm-fringed beach in Southwest Florida, Steve Taylor is reflecting on his current perilous circumstances, when a stranger walks up to him and puts two bullets through his head.
When Steve’s brother, Harry – an animal behaviourist and owner of a safari company in Durban, South Africa – is informed that Steve has been gunned down, he determines to take matters into his own hands and deal with the people responsible.
In London, Detective Inspector Ben Drury of the SCS (Special Crimes Squad) has been trying to build a case against and shut down Mafia boss Eddie Moscone for a long time. It looked like a done deal. Gangland hitman Steve Taylor was in custody of the Witness Protection Service, ready to give evidence that would put Moscone away for life in return for immunity from the law, or so Ben thought, until Steve did a runner and skipped the country.
Harry Taylor subsequently becomes the mob’s worst nightmare. Adapting his tracking and stalking skills, he procures all the information needed to seek out the man who pulled the trigger, and the New York associate of Moscone, Joey Farino, who arranged the hit in Florida.
One by one, all involved are being eliminated.
Ben Drury knows that Harry Taylor is on the rampage. He is attempting to bring him to book, even though on one level he approves of the vigilante action being taken against an organisation that is almost untouchable.
With the knowledge that one of his team is in Moscone’s pocket, a relationship blossoming with crime reporter, Kelly Patterson, and the body count stacking up, Ben is under emotional as well as work-related pressures. And Harry Taylor is somewhere in the capital with a new identity and walking a very fine line, now aware that no one he cares for is safe from the long and deadly arms of the Mafia, but still intent on deadly reprisal against them.
