Life in the Palace can indeed be boring as Prince Momo discovers. However, that’s no good reason to let himself wallow in the boredom that is sometimes associated with being a royalty.
This, to some extent, is partly what pushes the young prince to take to night escapades to discover life beyond the palace. In the process, he learns a lot about himself, the Island of Zetu, and of course its culture. As he grows up, his sense of adventure and inquisitiveness eventually brings admiration and respect to the royal family.
Prince Momo is a must-read children’s story. It’s a story that captures the mind and takes the reader into the world of royalty with all its sensitivities, frailties, trappings of wealth, and human-ness – both in private and public life.
This book reveals that whether one belongs to a royal family or not, a human being is a human being.
Prince Momo is indeed an entertaining book. The story is a reflection of what isolation does to the mind of a child as he or she grows up. The many questions they ask themselves and the dilemma they face living in isolated but elite environments. Should children from wealthy backgrounds attend public schools? Should they be allowed to mingle with the children from poor backgrounds? Should parents dictate the kind of friends their children should have based on financial and social status? All these are the questions and issues that the young prince faces and struggles with.
Enjoy the book.
