When Charles and Penny Farthing return home for the Christmas holidays, they find a new, exciting sweet shop opening in the middle of their town. The shop is owned by the colourful eccentric, Mr. Van Tweekle. But when strange things start happening to the children of the town, Charles and Penny decide to investigate.
