Introducing The Cat From Bury’s Tails (A Cat Poetry Book For Children and Cat Lovers Everywhere)
Minka is the leader of a troupe of cats, who meet every night under the school’s assembly hall to sing songs and share stories.
One night, Minka arrives only to find that there is a ginger tom curled up in his space. Furthermore, the stranger has two tails.
Two tails, thought Minka,
That’s not quite right.
And was intrigued to know why,
As a curious cat might.
The cat is from Bury and he agrees to tell the tale of how he acquired his second tail, if each of the cats assembled agree to first tell him a story.
“Let us each tell our tale,
As he told us to do.
And thus learn of his tail,
Plus the second one too.”
Anastasia, a Russian Blue, is the first to tell her tale in this kids book about cats; it is a story that her father once told her, called The Obedient Prince.
So she stood up to speak,
Not in prose, but in rhyme,
Then took a deep breath,
And began: “Once upon a time…”
The next cat to speak is Snowy, a Norwegian Forest, who tells his tale about The Dog On The Log.
Now all dogs can swim, that much is true,
But here is a secret, between me and you.
If you fall into the Nile, chasing after some wood,
You'll soon discover, Doggy Paddle's no good.
Kamikaze, Rat and Mr. Snozzles then tell their tales in turn, before Minka tells his story, entitled Cats.
That’s not to say we are loathed by all.
Cat lovers love us,
And admire our gall.
They don’t care we don’t come when they call,
Or run and fetch,
When they throw us a ball.
Finally, it is the turn of the cat from Bury to tell the story of how he got his second tail.
I was born just north of Bury, the youngest of five,
The runt of the litter and lucky to survive.
Then slowly but surely, I grew up quite strong,
And was the pick of the bunch, when her parents came along.
