They might be the leader of the free world and the most recognizable person in the universe, but each of the American presidents must eat and drink to survive, just like you and me. Not all of the presidents, of course, shared similar food cravings and tastes. Some (Thomas Jefferson) were true gourmets who favored fancy French cuisine and couldn’t resist the ooey-gooey goodness of Macaroni and Cheese. Others (Abraham Lincoln) were "food-as-fuel" kind of guys,, and, in times of national crisis, had to be reminded to eat. Some presidents (William Howard Taft) consumed too much fattening food and grew obese. Others (Richard Nixon) had unusual food habits and tastes. And others (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) viewed food as a tool of diplomacy and cultural exchange. So, as we’ll see, viewing the foods that our Chief Executives choose to eat can reveal a little bit about their unique personalities and character traits.
