Is your bad boss making your workplace toxic? Are things so bad the only solution you see is to quit and look for a better, less stressful job? Do you daydream of leaving the job market entirely? Is early retirement an option? Maybe it is time to start your own business. These are the only real options for escaping a bad boss.
But what if you live in the real world? Suppose you have a mortgage and a young child, with another on the way. Can you really quit your job, leave your bad boss behind and chase your dreams? Are you willing to risk the roof over your family’s head because things are bad at work? It may be torture, but it still pays the bills.
If you are stuck with a bad boss I have some good news. There are ways to stay where you are and make the best of the situation. There are coping mechanisms you can use. Mind you, these will not make your boss better. They will help you deal with this toxic individual however.
I am not here to give you motivational advice. It is impossible to remain motivated in a toxic workplace. I am here to help you recognize what is making your office or factory floor toxic, namely your boss. I will show you how to build up resistance to that toxicity. You will be able to use these coping mechanisms to make the best out of a bad situation.
Your bad boss is not going to go away. It is impossible to ignore him. You are going to have to engage him, ignore him or mitigate his harmful energy. If you don’t his negative impact on your life is only going to grow.
What I want to show you is even if you are being oppressed you don’t have to be powerless. There are ways to regain control and take back your power from those trying to sabotage your career and your life. I will show you those ways. It is not going to be easy, and it is not going to be what you expect.
Within the business world, there is a specialized field of study dedicated to the exploration of motivation. A boss is interested in motivation as a means of getting his employees to do what he wants. A bad boss will consider money as the only motivator. Here his concept is “I will pay you to do what I want, when I want and how I want”.
The real world experience however shows this is often not what happens, and indeed if motivation was that simple there would be no bad bosses. If money was the only motivator there would not be so many discontented, yet well paid, workers in the world. So why are you disgruntled? Is it your boss?
Yes! Your boss is making your workplace toxic.
Every single organization out there is dealing with employee dissatisfaction and suffering the costs. They all say they know how to motivate their employees. Yet they are left scratching their heads when their best workers become non-performers or leave to go work someplace better.
How can they know the problem, have the solution literally in the palm of their hands and still fail? You see they have it all wrong. They believe the reason for your demotivation is you. They all preach you are the master of your own destiny after all.
The real reason you are not motivated is you have a jerk as a boss. He oppresses you. He doesn’t respect you. He stiffs you on payday. His method of leading is “My way or the Highway”. It is impossible to be happy at your job when you have your own personal dictator stepping on you on his way to the top. It is time for you to throw off his shackles and taste freedom again
Whenever my own horrible boss, who was trying to keep me down, was not looking I was working on this book instead of his assignments. Imagine that, my boss essentially paid me to write this book. If that doesn’t give you a unique outlook on sticking it to your boss and succeeding in the workplace then nothing will.
