Albert Ackalitis was a member of the Arsenal Gang that pulled the biggest robbery in the history of Brooklyn in 1934. He and his cohorts robbed an armored car owned by the Rubel Ice Company. Ackalitis served a 14 year prison term before he became entrenched as dock boss on Manhattan's West Side. He was a significant player in the ongoing strife between the American Federation of Labor and the International Longshoremen's Association during the early 1950s.
