    About

Moving one's own household goods and other valued personal possessions allows for the potential savings of hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the more traditional route of hiring an expensive, full-service moving company to do it for you. Furthermore, when considering a cross-country move and transporting those household goods over long distances, costly fees and related fuel surcharges from trucking companies are added into the equation. Also keep in mind that the transport company has complete control over when your furniture and other possessions are delivered back to you. Well then, how can an individual slash these costs and stay within a reasonable moving budget while, at the same time, controlling pickup and delivery dates and times? Renting and then self-loading a pup trailer from a company such as ABF or Old Dominion, which also includes a professional transport driver as well, is a very cost-effective and flexible option. The one major drawback is that these trailers are intended solely for general freight and not household goods. Traditionally, fine furniture and appliances were considered to be too delicate to transport within these trailers due to the lack of stable, interior platforms and the spring-loaded nature of the truck-trailer combinations which do not yield a smooth ride for the trailer's contents. However, with the right advice and professional guidance, it is possible for an individual to load a pup trailer effectively and, as a result, save plenty of money in the process. This brief manual will present some innovative strategies for packing and loading in order to maximize the available linear footage and related volume, while, at the same time, preventing damages to the furniture, appliances, and household goods from occurring in-transit.
