Up the Gangway and over the Waves is a compilation from the author's diaries and scrapbooks covering more than thirty years. It is a personal account of the ships, people and places she and her husband have encountered during numerous cruises. Sarah E. Francis and her husband have had the pleasure of cruising on many different ships over the years, and this account allows the reader an insight into their experiences; from preparing for the very first cruise and the accompanying quandaries and dilemmas (what to wear, who to tip), to their latest voyages and the kindness shown when mobility becomes a difficulty.
