    About

This is the story of an architect employed by the Egyptian government who worked for 15 years under conditions akin to slavery. He was assigned to undesirable remote locations working from sunup till sundown trying to fulfill unreasonable workloads and deadlines. When promotion and salary raise time came, he was bypassed. Finally, he was allowed to leave the country after the unfavorable outcome of the six-day war with Israel when the ban on immigration was lifted. He arrived in the US in 1968 with only $200 in his pocket, the maximum allowed by the Egyptian government at that time. The book includes many interesting anecdotes about air raids on Cairo during WWII and describes his interactions with his eight siblings, funny incidents during his years in college and the euphoria he experienced after arriving stateside. It is a testament to God’s benevolence and the fortitude of the human spirit in the face of daunting odds.
