    About

In this short one-act play (10-20 minutes) by Mary Elizabeth Leach Raines, three strangers stranded on a subway share their stories about the first time they fell in love.

Love on the Subway can be performed by one woman alone, three woman, or two women and one man. The play consists of a brief segment of dialogue, followed by three monologues.

    • No sets are required, and actors may remain seated, if desired, so very little direction is needed.

The monologues in "Love on the Subway" are suitable for auditions, as well as for performance alone or in combination with other one-act plays.

There is no fee for actors, both amateur and professional, to read from this play for live, unrecorded auditions, with certain stipulations. Any other performance, recording, or reproduction requires a royalty. These royalties are minimal. The play is suitable for both high-school and mature audiences.

Love on the Subway was originally written as an audition piece, and was later premiered by the Fly-by-Night Players.
