    About

A joyful examination of the Beat Boom in Manchester in the early Sixties, showing the exciting years from Skiffle to Psychedelia when groups like The Hollies, Hermans Hermits and Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders were part of a musical explosion that can never be repeated. It was a musical revolution but it was cultural and sociological as well and born of a time long before Health and Safety got the chance to bite life on the bottom.
When there was the undenlable taste of excitement in the smokey air.
Groups ot klds banding together to make muslc, wlth gultars.bass and drums as the solld foundation for all that was happening.
And the music they made was raw and unskilled inltlally, but it was thelr own.
Clubs openlng all over the city to provide forums for the new music, to enable kids to play thelr muslc to their own kind.
Dark. dank cellar clubs and posher, more pretentious places all forglng somelhlng new and wonderful from the drab, mlddIe-aged morass whlch was there before.
And the River Mersey trundllng slowly, uncarlngly through the area past the houses which were home for the kids and the offlces and factories where they worked until the music set them free.
And all thls happened. not ln Liverpool.
    Not just In Liverpool.
    But ln Manchester.
