Thailand is a lovely country but can be a deceptive and dangerous place when you are down and out. You are vulnerable to threats and violence from both Thais and foreigners. Steve ended up stranded with no future prospects and no way out.
He lived homeless on the beach at an advanced age, lost, lonely, depressed, destitute and at times suicidal. He tried to get help from home and the British Embassy but got little support. Steve made many friends both well off and poor, Thai and foreign who were happy to help him out.
Their kindness and generosity would enable him to seek medical attention when sick or go to a pharmacy for whatever medication was needed.
