Barry Taylor decides to buy a Farmhouse in France on Ebay without even seeing it, to escape from a boring life in the UK.
Cracks soon begin to appear not only with the house but also with other ex-pats that resent 'White Van Man' turning up with his family in their little hamlet.
Clarissa, the snooty neighbour is a force to be reckoned with, but Barry is a good match for her as long as he keeps his temper in place.
Affairs, weddings, funerals and a birth are all parts of the plot to this light-hearted entertaining novel. Some would call it fiction, but many who have read it have recognised some very familiar traits in most of the characters.
Vantastic France is a down to earth look at simple rural life in France.
REVIEWS
'gossips, fist fights, drink drivers expats in France says it all,'
'I loved it. As an expat living in France it is so true to life here. A really enjoyable read'
'Entertaining French farce featuring a mostly-English cast.'
I bought this where it was listed as a travel title, but see the book description here and the introduction, which both state clearly this is a work of fiction. So, don't expect a tale of "here's what happened to me", but do expect a funny story with some outlandish characters, some of which MAY be based on real life. Or they may not be. Either way, a fun read.
I enjoyed reading this book. It seems to be typical of family life - not just in France - anywhere. As one other reviewer said it would make a wonderful TV series. Hope there will be a sequel.
