    About

I am an elementary teacher with years of experience. After encountering a lot of difficulty in finding books to provide effective instructions to my young students, I decided to write them myself. My books target parents who wish to work with their own children and are ideal for homeschooling.

Phonetic awareness is very important in the development of the young reader. In this book, your child will learn to associate words with sounds and sequences. This is particularly useful for spelling. I have deliberately excluded pictures because, based upon my experience, I have noticed that children would tend to watch the pictures before they actually try to read the words. This hinders their ability and willingness to effectively learn to read.

The book is divided into three sections. Section one consists of flashcards. Section two is a worksheet and section three is to be used for spelling and dictation.

    HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
1.Using the worksheet in section two, let your child spell and sound out each two-letter word. For example, have him/her say: “a, t” “ – at”

2.Then tell your child to make a word ending with “–at”. Call out the words from the flashcards. For example, when you say “bat”, your child would have to put the letter “b” in the space in front of the “at” written on the worksheet. Therefore, “__at” should become “bat”.

3.If the child is struggling to put in the correct letter, show him/her the flashcard and then try again.

4.Note: words such as jet, get, set and cat may be complicated for some children because of the change in the vowel sound. However, have your child learn them by rote.

5.For section three, get a pencil and piece of paper and have your child spell out the words. That way he/she would associate words, sounds and sequences with sentences that have sense and meaning. This prepares him/her to read and write his/her own sentences or a short composition.

This particular book could also be used with persons who are dyslexic. I have not enabled digital rights management, therefore you can print out the flashcards and worksheet to use with your child.
