    About

This 56 page book describes how the author built his own golf training aids. From beginner to scratch golfer, there is something here for you. Golf instruction has a very hard time getting through to the average golfer. The author set out to find a better way to demonstrate the correct swing feel for himself, and now others. To learn the golf swing you first have to learn how to FEEL the correct swing. Since no two people are alike, what one persons feels can be totally different from what someone else does. A golf training aid is designed to help you find this elusive feel for the swing. You could spend hundreds of dollars on the many swing training aids available; or you could build your own for little or no cost. The reason this is important is that it may take several different training aids before you find something that works for you. There is 18 different training aids described in the book. Some are quite simple, others are a little more complex...all are effective! Many of the training aids require an indoor practice area. It is not necessary in all cases that you have the ability to complete a full swing. So you will be able to simulate the feel in most cases whether or not you can complete a full swing. It is filled with pictures that show what the training aid looks like and also describes how the author constructed and used each one.

Have you seen the Arnold Palmer television commercial titled 'Swing Your Swing'? If not, you may want to find the TV spot online. What Arnold is saying is that everyone has a different swing (he certainly did). If you try and emulate what others do, or look like, you will find yourself over analyzing every move and will ultimately end up in total frustration. Your swing must be smooth flowing and rhythmic. Everyone walks a little differently, basketball players each have their own shot, why should golf be any different? Of course there are several fundamental things that must take place for a solid strike on the ball to take place.

What you are really looking for is something that will help you feel what a free flowing swing is like. Once accomplished the fundamental positions will happen naturally. You will not even have to think about it. The swing is moving far too fast for you to try and manipulate a position. If on occasion you are successful trying to put the club in a certain position, consider yourself lucky...for that one swing only. Step up to the ball again and try the same thing and you will likely find yourself with a poor shot. How many times have you heard someone say "if I could only bottle that". Once you obtain proper feel, that is essentially what you are doing. Now you just need to swing enough to build this into your memory so those nasty habits of old do not creep back in to your swing.

In my view golf is more difficult to learn because we are not standing upright when making our swing. We have to bend over to address the ball which makes the swing movement that much more difficult. Traditional golf asks you to swing around this tilted plane. For many of us this is very difficult to do consistently. In my case, I am not flexible enough to accomplish this smoothly so I stand as upright as I can and shift my weight in more of a back and forward style as opposed to more of a rotational swing turning their entire back towards the target that others may use. These training aids will help you accomplish either style, just a little bit differently.
