Jane at Camp is ideal for schools seeking a play about saving the environment, presenting an inside look at the great outdoors. It is about an unusual summer camp for youngsters called Camp Cosmic. Young Jane keeps a diary, and through entries which she reads aloud, we share her inside view and impressions of her fellow campers and the daily activities, lessons, and camp events.
Myrtle is a hair spray-loving social butterfly who can't wait to get back home - until she saves a turtle. April is the camp's little poetess who finds herself having a tea party in the woods with Mother Nature. Three high-spirited boys who call themselves The Three Hams put on a number of skits featuring Ozone Awareness, which Mother Nature interrupts with her latest Nature News Bulletins on pollution and other environmental problems. Jane, herself, leads a chorus of girls who dream of having magic wands with which to zap up litter.
The children learn all creatures have a bond with the great outdoors including sow bugs, who come out to sing and eat chocolate covered leaves. By camp's end, they all have come to a greater understanding of the great outdoors - and themselves - for each day has proven to be a true cosmic experience!
