Jesus lived long before Christianity anointed him Lord and Savior. What he taught often bears little resemblance to what the church teaches about him. He taught in the manner of the gurus of the East, not systematically, as we do in the West. He used story and situation and example to help his disciples and listeners recognize and be challenged by the truth that was already within them. Looking at his teachings today, we can identify at least five distinct methods of teaching: beatitudes, sayings, parables, miracles and prayers. Fortunately his authentic teachings have been preserved in these nuggets, which lie buried, sometimes nearly unrecognizable, in the gospel accounts of his life. Jesus Before Christ explores these authentic teachings, not as theology, but as mysticism, wisdom and practice. Presented as a pilgrimage, the curriculum leads its readers on a journey through seven levels of discovery for each of the five methods of teaching. Along the way some startling revelations emerge that may change the way you think about everything you thought you knew about religion.
