THE PERFECT CRIME
This is The Perfect Crime pulled off by a most imperfect criminal.
Meet Bonkie Byrne from Dublin – the criminal idiot/genius who robs the fortress Bank of Ireland – and gets away with it. Gets away with many millions and no one is looking for him. Why? - because along the way BONKIE frames the bank manager O'Malley/Smyth for the job.
The Irish Police are looking for O'Malley/ Smyth - not BONKIE!
How could all this possibly come to be ?
THE FIRM - a Dublin gang of professional ruthless gangsters - realize BONKIE is the double of O'Malley/Smyth who is in charge of all cash transactions and movements in Ireland.
Their plan is simple.
Kidnap O'Malley/Smyth and put BONKIE in his place and load up the FIRM's bogus security van full of lovely old untraceable money earmarked for the furnaces.
It is as simple - states the head of the FIRM McGregor to BONKIE - easier than 'taking candy from a baby.'
No it's not!
The Perfect Crime turns out to be difficult, hair raising, complicated and very risky.
For a start BONKIE has to sacrifice himself and sleep with O'Malley/Smyth's beautiful wife Delores the night before the job when she comes back to her Dublin home - most unexpectedly - after a row with her lover The Minister for Finance.
Can BONKIE pull off an incredible double act full of love and passion and convince Delores he is her devoted husband?
The things BONKIE has to do to pull of this job was not in the Firms job description act.
While in the bank BONKIE comes face to face with a policeman who has recently arrested him. The policeman is carrying an Uzi sub machine gun. BONKIE most definitely has to convince him he is the bank manager!
The nasty wicked sneaky porker Supt Ned O'Stitch is hot on BONKIE'S and the Firm's trail determined to frame the lot of them and put them in prison for the rest of their lives.
The Firm have stolen an IRA arms dump to carry out the job. The IRA are hunting the Firm and have ordered they be shot on site.
This is a cracking good read - an Irish novel that is authentic, intriguing and as hilarious as it is thrilling.
It may be the worlds most Perfect Crime but an easy job?
I leave that for the reader to decide after they have stopped laughing.
