The loss of a beloved pet can be as devastating as the loss of a human family member. Our pets are part of our family. We care for them, we provide them with food, shelter and medical care, and we love them like they are our children. So when they are diagnosed with a terminal illness or suddenly taken away from us in an accident, their loss is profoundly felt by all who loved them. This book was written to provide guidance to those who have lost or who are about to lose a beloved pet, and to provide insight about some of the decisions you will be faced with making, and the feelings that you will experience during this sad period in your life. Often some family members won't understand why the death of your pet is affecting you so deeply. To them it's just a dog, or just a cat or just whatever type of pet that you have and they don't understand what all the fuss is about. But to you, this pet is or was your devoted companion and friend who loved you unconditionally and you loved it just as much. There's a bond between a pet and its owner that can be hard to explain to those who are not animal lovers. But there are many who do understand the important role our pets have in our lives, and who can genuinely sympathize with your loss. It is my hope that by sharing my story of love and loss, and by providing information to help guide you through the loss of your beloved pet, that you will learn to remember and appreciate the love that your pet gave you while they were here, and that it's ok to move on because they will live on in your heart and memory forever.
