Based on in-depth interviews with over 100 couples, this book reveals five developmental stages that most relationships pass through: Romance, Power Struggle, Stability, Commitment, Co-Creation. The book is based on the Jungian notion, "marriage as a psychological relationship." It takes the stance that the predictable challenges that arise between partners can be used for personal and couple spiritual evolution, and it offers skill-building tips and tools for successfully navigating the challenges and pitfalls of each stage. It was originally published in 1980, but the soft-cover edition is out-of-print. It has recently (2015) been revised to reflect the author's current thinking on how to create intimacy and fulfillment.
