Have you ever wondered how to entertain your children cheaply?
That's what we're here to help with.
Theresa GoodIdea, her husband Wheelie and their daughter Dot-Com were found frozen in suspended animation in a glacier in 2009.
Since then they have lived in a secure location with the archaeologist couple who found them.
Obviously the GoodIdeas can't physically leave the grounds for fear of kidnap but Tess and her daughter share their favourite family activities and time-fillers (which they have a lot of) in the "Quality Time with Your Children" series of books.
This particular book explains how you can turn a few cardboard tubes from old toilet rolls into several fun-packed hours with your kids...
So long as they know their own birthdays, mummy and daddy's birthdays and maybe a grandparent or two, even a pet's birthday, they'll be able to make their own "family totem pole" very cheaply.
As they find out other people's birthdays there's no limit to the number of "family totem poles" your children can make...
They could even make a huge pole charting their family history right back to who knows when?
Based on a traditional Native American system of "Earth Signs" everybody is assigned a particular totem animal depending on the season of their birth.
Just like Star Signs there are 12 of them so, given your birthday, it's very easy to work out what "Earth Sign" you are.
Take any group of people (we just call them "family" totem poles), pile their totem animals on top of each other and you've got a "family totem pole" representing that group.
Templates are supplied for all 12 animals if you feel you need guidance.
But who are we to stifle the creativity of your children?
They can draw whatever pictures they like as part of their totem poles!
Equipment needed: Toilet roll tubes, felt pens (or paints), card, paper, sticky tape, glue, scissors
At the back of the book you'll find short chapters explaining the typical character traits, strengths, weaknesses, life challenge etc. for each of the 12 Earth signs.
Read the appropriate ones and learn how to deal with your nearest and dearest (and yourself!)
We sincerely hope you all have tons of fun with this idea :-)
