Contents:
1.Mapp and Lucia aloft
2.Diva’s Dilemma
3.Lucia Entertains
Collected here are three new stories. In the first of these Mapp and Lucia find themselves adrift in a hot air balloon heading across country. The story reflects the last time they were stranded together on a table and swept out to sea. This time they are trying to raise money for the church roof but it starts to go wrong when Georgie lets go of the rope hanging from the balloon. In the second story the town is photography mad and Diva finds a new friend to help her with her pictures leading to an unexpected outcome. The final story sees The Duke of Windsor returning to the town and as before causing confusion. All the stories owe much to Benson’s wonderful characters and are a small homage to his work.
Some reviews of the Geoff Martin’s other stories;
Geoff Martin certainly knows his Benson – he has written a book on first editions of Benson’s work – so references to other works abound in this story:
Geoff Martin is gradually finding his place in Tilling. More, please. Patrick Micel (Benson’s French translator)
E F Benson would be thoroughly delighted with this super little novel. It brings the world of Mapp and Lucia to life. Robert Goffee
