She's looking for a hint of magic in her world...
Dora Carridine is fed up with her life as a preacher’s daughter and sets out to explore the darker side of life instead. If she can find some magic in the world, then maybe she will find a place she belongs.
When she comes across a coven of witches, she takes on their trials to try and join them. But the witches aren’t all they appear to be, and Dora finds herself slipping into a darker world than she imagined.
She has to make a choice to do the right thing, but Dora’s never been very good at doing anything right…
A Hint of Magic is an occult mystery adventure, and it is the prequel to the paranormal comedy series The Demon Diaries. As well as being Dora's origins story, the book begins the teen witch trilogy with Dora's first exploration into the supernatural world.
"Wildly, bizarrely, brain-punchingly inventive!" - Derek Landy, Author of Skulduggery Pleasant.
Q - What kind of reader would like this book?
A - I think this book will appeal to readers who are looking for a laugh out loud story about demons and witches or a teen witch trilogy about a supernatural girl, mystic spells and magic. The stories are action-packed fantasy, hell satire and new gothic mysteries, which explore Heaven, Hell and everything in between. The Demon Diaries series comes with a strong heroine, disturbing demons, a coven of witches, wicked vampires, werewolves, psychics, angels and even badass fairies and dragons in the mix. So if you love psychic humorous fiction, laugh out loud romance, horror comedy or a funny witchcraft story combined with real-world humor, then you'll probably like these books.
Q - Have you been writing for a long time?
A - Yes. I was first published in 1994, and since then I've written and published many books, including writing for Harlequin and winning the SYTYCW competition. It's been a fun journey so far. I've had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best writers in the world along the way, which has been amazing.
Q - What's so special about The Demon Diaries?
A - I think for me the special parts are the funny scenes. Is it bad that I laugh while I write these books? Because I do, all the time. I love the funny female lead, the action-packed fantasy and the Hell satire. However, I also enjoy the thrills and spills of an urban sorcery thriller, suburban and psychological suspense or dark romantic novella, so those elements show through in these stories too. The series is packed full of everything you would want from an occult mystery adventure, which is why I enjoy the books so much.
