The Church is often not willing to confront many issues that they either do not have an instant answer to, would find themselves in a place of sacrifice, or would entail conflict. Depression and mental illness are crucial issues that need to be addressed by the Church.
We are to comfort our brothers and sisters in Christ, and confess our sins to one another that we might be whole; our responsibilities include holding up the weary arms, supporting the weak, the poor, and the orphaned - however, the Church seems, instead, to withdraw from this particular battle.
