These reminiscences of a one-time life model, gigolo and porn stud make for some at times hot and hilarious reading and when they are not relating sexual adventures they are providing fascinating glimpses of life in Australia, England, Ireland and France as it was in days not so very distant. The search for happiness, which we all undertake, seems to have been particularly confusing for this young man and his various attempts to satisfy those two most pressing needs, sex and money, lead him into some tricky situations. Only in middle-age does he finally face his demons, accept that he is homosexual and decide that, despite the pain it will cause, it is time to ‘come out’. Although he does meet his ’Mr Right’ this is not a ‘happily ever after’ story as both men have unsuccessful heterosexual relationships behind them and a deal of emotional baggage with them. Life goes on, however, as a ‘work in progress’, both men learning that important lesson about the glass being seen as half-full rather than as half-empty and that other important lesson about distinguishing between what we want and what we need to be truly happy.
It is a good read if you are interested in raunch or in the great big questions of life and it is a great read if you are interested in both.
