On the coast of Maine lies a town where the past and present constantly collide, where water is all that separates the living from the dead, and where secrets are a way of life. Evil deeds played out there, and the only thing darker and deeper than the ocean’s depths, is bloody revenge.
Carrie’s life took a terrible turn the day her daughter Hannah died. She’s struggling with guilt, the aftermath of a crumbling and acrimonious marriage, writer’s block, and depression. When she overhears a couple talking about a haunted little village on the wild coast of Maine Carrie’s sure that there is where she will find the inspiration she needs to write again, and the space she needs to heal.
Carrie heads out for the village and moves into a cottage by the sea, a cottage once owned by a woman named Rose—a woman who fell in love with another woman, a bootlegging socialite, who saved Rose’s life on a night when murder occurred.
With Carrie’s present rubbing against the past that Rose already lived, with the fate of an entire town, and the souls of all of those in it including Carrie’s on the line, the same darkness bears down yet again.
And Carrie will have to decide if she wants to leave the past behind, or be trapped in it forever.
