    About

    Back Cover Publisher Description

This eBook covers the general Downloading, Installing & Configuring of PLEX Media Server to Windows, Apple and linux based
computers, allowing the reader to access digital media content representing Audio & Video on devices connected to the
home network. The devices which are used as specific examples, within the eBook, are Amazon Fire TV Boxes and Sticks,
Chromecast, NOW TV Box and the Roku LT. Similarly Roku 1, 2 XS, 2 XD, 3 & the Roku Streaming Stick may be used in the same
manner as the Roku LT and NOW TV Boxes described within this eBook. Additionally XBox, smart TVs by LG Panasonic, Sony, Samsung
may also access the digital media content made available by the PLEX Media Server. This eBook is ideal for readers that have a
number of 'Network Aware' devices that they wish to connect to a home network.

Note: The Roku manufactured NOW TV Box, released in the U.K may also be used, but the Plex ‘channel’ ‘app’ is not available
via its’ more limited Roku ‘channel’ store. The NOW TV Box must be used with a modified version of the Plex ‘channel’ ‘app’.
This eBook does NOT detail the ‘Sideloading’ of the modified version of the Plex ‘channel’ ‘app’ to the NOW TV Box,
potential purchasers are directed to sources available on the Internet or to a2d Studio Products other eBook publication ‘The
Practical Guide to Connecting a ‘Dumb' TV NOW TV / Roku LT Box to a Network & Internet 'channel' Digital Media Server’ in which
    the process is graphically detailed.

This eBook is not country specific, addressing the subject, with respect to the 'Streaming Devices' discussed as internationally
released devices, addressing any geographical differences where they are significant, but does notcover the installation of the
'Streaming Devices' used to the home network.

This eBook addresses 'Streaming' digital media content from devices on the home network and the limited number of digital media
file formats that may be 'Streamed' by installing a Network & Internet 'channel' Digital Media Server to the home network, that
Digital Media Server application is 'Plex Media Server'. Which converts, or 'Transcodes' 'on-the-fly' digital media file formats
that the streaming device is not able to 'natively' accept. This makes home network digital media content, in an increased number
of digital media audio & video file formats available to the streaming device.

Unlike other methods which rely on the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of an device external to the 'Streaming Device' used to
'Push' content to the 'Dumb' TV / 'Streaming Device' Combination, the method described here more closely emulates the behaviour
of a typical Smart TV by 'seamlessly integrating' an installed Graphical User Interface (GUI) along side that of the
'Streaming Device' menu system on the screen of the 'Streaming Device', in use, to 'Pull' digital media content to the screen
of the 'Dumb' TV in use.

This eBook is, at its' core, a highly graphical instruction manual, in order to minimise the amount of text the reader is
presented with, this is reflected in the high page count and larger than usual file size of the eBook, it moves very quickly
after a little reading into ‘hands-on’ practical demonstrations. It is a 'Practical Guide’, it contains only the practical,
‘hands-on’, information required to add access to home network based digital media content and an increased number of digital
media file formats which may be successfully 'Streamed'. Enabling the reader to reliably 'Stream' videos, movies, music and pictures
in an increased number of digital media file formats from the home network.

No advanced technical aspects of the underlying networking technology are discussed. No prior knowledge or advanced technical
skills are required to achieve the final result. The reader is not required to understand, and will not be presented with, any
technical details of the networking techniques used.
