For more than 100 years the poverty and desperation of Glasgow's slums fuelled the violence of the gangs. But some men were bigger than any gang. Men like Arthur Thompson, Walter Norval and Paul Ferris - brutal and remorseless - came to cast a shadow of fear over the whole city. But the gangsters and criminals were not Glasgow's only hard men. The other side of the fight had its share too. Glasgow's crimefighters - from cops on the beat to chief constables and high court judges - were also tough.
