    About

In August, 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre Museum in Paris.

The theft was considered the greatest theft of the greatest painting in history. The French called it L'Affaire Joconde.

During the nearly three year search for the stolen painting by Leonardo da Vinci, artists like Picasso and Apollinaire were suspects in the theft and were arrested and questioned for past thefts from and threats against the Louvre.

When the Mona Lisa was finally recovered an Italian National was trying to pawn it off in Florence Italy, of all places. He stated motivation, to repatriate an Italian treasure.

This theatre script explores many of the angles to the theft including the claim made by Karl Decker of the Saturday Evening Post that the theft of the Mona Lisa was a smoke screen for an even greater crime, the sale of Mona Lisa Forgeries to rich Americans..

This theatre script in in eight acts. The script is designed for a community theatre or school setting. The entire play can be presented in under two hours.

This theatre script would be amendable to a film rendition. Please contact the author through Amazon if you wish to perform the play or want to make it into a film.
