This textbook introduces the dental terminology needed for dental students and dental assistants. The book includes the use of dental terminology in the following areas: dental anatomy, basic dental terms, dental specialties, and dental instruments. Current teaching methodology is recommended to master the dental terminology course objectives. By the end of this course the students are expected to :
•define and pronounce commonly used dental root words, prefixes and suffixes,
•pronounce commonly used dental terms,
•identify commonly used acronyms and abbreviations,
•explain the steps in analyzing the definition of dental acronyms,
•name and identify the tooth surfaces and characteristics,
•identify the location and function of human adult teeth,
•name and discuss the various tissues and membranes that make up the periodontium,
•name and identify basic dental instruments.
