Set in the sixties, this is a story of bank robberies and payback, approximately 8000 words in length. Ruby and Ben had met at a correctional facility for teenagers. Both had been juvenile delinquents and proud of it.
While some of their friends were going off to war or starting new careers, their goal was to become notorious. During their first bank heist, they take a young woman teller hostage and draw her into a life of sex, crime and revenge. Excerpt:
“What’s with the long skirt, darling?”
“It’s bank policy, ma’am. Skirts have to be at least four inches below the knees.”
“Ma’am? I like that. I ain’t never been called ma’am before. How do you feel about those bankers making you hide those pretty legs?” she asked as she resumed massaging the girl’s feet......
With a shot glass in one hand, her other hand naughtily worked its way around under the girl’s skirt. A few minutes later, it emerged with a pair of pink underpants in its grasp. “Inquiring minds want to know such things,” she giggled, holding them up in the air. “Maybe next time you’ll be more responsive to my questions, dear.”
“Here, Ben, accept these as a souvenir of our first bank heist,” she said as she humorously threw them at him. They landed on his head as he resumed his counting.
When it is learned that the girl blames a wealthy family for her father's suicide, the threesome concoct a plan of retaliation, kidnapping and ransom. Excerpt:
“Brittany was just on TV!” she exclaimed. “It was one of those most wanted criminals’ shows. They flashed an old photo of you and said you were guilty of kidnapping and torture, and that you and a few other people,” she paused to catch her breath some more as she looked over at Ruby and Ben, “had escaped with a large ransom. It’s not true, is it?”
