Drafted into the Army just two months before the attack on Pearl Harbor, Ken Rohde makes fast friends with three other young men: John Reck, Merel Roth, and John Rush. After marrying his sweetheart Marge on Christmas Eve, and spending the winter moving from camp to camp, Rohde is shipped off to the South Pacific along with the other three R’s. But after several months defending Fiji from the Japanese, the quartet is separated by the developments of war. Rohde and Roth transfer to the Army Air Force, train as pilots, and are sent to the European Theatre in separate companies. Will the Four R’s be reunited before the war is over?
Once he is stationed in England, Rohde describes his 35 completed missions as part of a B17 crew with the 457th Bomb Group. In this entertaining tale of courage and luck, Rohde pays tribute to good friends and to the love and devotion of a young couple separated by war.
