Young Reinhold Niebuhr: His Early Writings, 1911-1931, Edited and with an Introduction by William G. Chrystal, Foreword by John C. Bennett.
First published in 1977, this anthology of writings by Reinhold Niebuhr was collected from the Eden Archives, which is the depository of material for Niebuhr's denomination, the Evangelical Synod of North America (now a part of the United Church of Christ). Some of the essays in this collection were unpublished, but the majority appeared only in Eden Seminary or Evangelical Synod periodicals. Young Reinhold Niebuhr is an invaluable source book for the study of Reinhold Niebuhr's development and shows the extent to which his growth was influenced by the denomination in which he was raised. In addition, new phases of Niebuhr's career are brought to light here, such as his work in Religious Education and his activities within the Evangelical Synod during the First World War.
