    About

The Stuarts of Aubigny, who lived in France from 1422 till 1672, distinguished themselves in all the great French wars of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries and were inseparably connected with two celebrated companies of Scottish soldiers. The Scots Men-at-Arms and the Scottish Archers of the King's Body Guard, or Scots Guards, were originally formed out of what remained of a force of men-at-arms and archers brought from Scotland by Sir John Stuart of Darnley in support of the beleaguered Dauphin when France was overrun by the English.

In telling the stories of the 11 successive Seigneurs of Aubigny the author tells of the gallant deeds of the Scots Guards and Scots Men-at-Arms, of the relationships between Scotland, France and England, and of some of the actions of the Lennox family of this period, which includes Matthew Earl of Lennox, and his son Henry Lord Darnley who married Mary Queen of Scots.

This Kindle edition contains the complete text of Lady Elizabeth Cust's book, as privately printed in 1891, including two genealogical charts: "Descent of Esme Stuart and Katherine de Balsac his Wife from the Viscontis of Milan", and "Pedigree showing the Descent of the Seigneurie of Aubigny, and the Relationship of the Stuarts of Aubigny to the Royal House of Stuart and to the Stuarts of Lenox and Darnley". It has been prepared with care and proofread throughout.
